Another Day Trip

Well, I managed to talk my sweet hubby into another day trip! This time we went north of Phoenix to Prescott where it was about 25 degrees cooler!

I haven't been there in about 3 years and boy have things changed. Unfortunately, a lot of my favorite stores are gone. And the economy is definately affecting this area.

First we stopped in Dewey. There is about 8 buildings that all look like an old town.

The first place we stopped in Prescott was LUNCH at the Gurley St. Grill. It is our favorite because of their....

Fried Mushrooms!

This is one of the old buildings in Old Prescott.

One of the main streets is named Whiskey Row....apparently, this was where the bars were in the town's early days. Mostly now, it is little restaurants and boutiques.

This is the Courthouse. Prescott is the county seat for Yavapai county. This is a gorgeous building inside. We didn't go there today though.

I just love their old lamp posts and the huge baskets of flowers hanging from them. See the gorgeous blue sky. It was a beautiful day...

I went into a little store that unfortunately is going out of business....it was so cute. Very sad.

This was the dressing room. That is just too cute.

Oh ladies...looky at all the cloches! But man oh man, even at SALE prices, they were out of my budget!

Ok, now you know I went here for all you PINK bloggers out there! This was a fantastic store. I did buy some gift items here.... here are two things I didn't buy. Not that I didn't want them....I just didn't!

My hubs actually told me to go back and buy this fantastic stained glass purse with the dingles on it....but I told him he really didn't need to spend that kind of money on it. Not that it wasn't, well, purely yummy!

We saw the cutest ice cream shop that had all this popcorn and candy in it. We did have a scoop of ice cream.

Remember all these old fashioned candy sticks!

This was the tin ceiling in the entire ice cream shop. Well, we were getting to my favorite time of day, the antique shops. And my hubs dropped me off and guess where my camera was...yep, in the car. I could not believe the prices of the antiques. I am much richer than I thought!!!! I did get just a couple of things, which will be another post! Sorry, but I don't want to bore you to sleep!

Guess where we stopped last??? Sam's Club. We both were so thirsty and it was there!

Well, we had to start heading back home....

So beautiful! We had such a fun day together. Thanks for listening!!

OH! Thanks for the tour of Prescott! Hope to visit there someday. We have friends from San Diego that retired there..sadly we've lost touch, but hope to reconnect somehow.
Glad you like my little 'tour'-and the only thing I bought was a last month's Romantic Homes magazine--at a reduced price. ;-) I always go for the 'deal' ya know!!
Blessings!

How nice to go to a cooler area! Prescott is pretty and I love Flaggstaff.
The lamp posts and the huge baskets of flowers were so pretty and how fun to browse through the fun shops remaining. I would love to see what ticked your heart pink enough to buy!

Happy OW! ~♥

Ceekay- Oh I love Prescott!! My DH is from Phoenix and we would go to Prescott every January for a conference at a campground in the area. It was always the middle of Jan but the courthouse and stores still would have all the Christmas decorations up- I just loved going every year to visit this special spot of the world. Unfortunately they started doing the conferences around Surprise so we don't get up that way any more. So sorry to hear about the shops closing up- they really had some neat ones but you are right about the prices! You need to come Colorado way sometime and I will show you some great antiquing at great prices!!

I do still have that first wire cloche that I pictured in my blog- I bought 2 even though they were a little pricey thinking someone in blogland or my little antique corner would like it- I can work some on the price if you are interested. I don't know really what to tell you about finding wire ones except to keep looking and look at things with a little different eye- it might not be a cloche but could it be one if you turned it upside down. ex. The favorite one of mine is (I think) a protective wire mesh from a large utility light.

I had never noticed you were in Buckeye- Bill's aunt and uncle lived out there years ago- Uncle Busters dad had a big cattle ranch out that way.

It would be fun to meet you in person if it ever works out when we get out that way- usually in Jan but sometimes we come out at other times depending on what is going on over there! Try not to come in the summer though!!

Gosh sorry this is so long!

I love Prescott! I wondered if the economy was effecting them.... Sad! But I guess that will make room for new later. I sure hope this economy turns around soon. I am sad every time I find one of my favorite shops is closed. :(

Hey there. It looks like you guys had a great little trip. I love visiting new little "old" towns. I haven't been to Prescott in . . . gosh years. Maybe we need to go back! Although . . . my checkbook probably is thinking "nope!".
I am thinking of you every day - hope all is well! Hugs.

Ceekay, you are having so much fun finding all these great stores! Also, so happy that you love mushrooms like I do. But I've never had them fried. Maybe, I'll make some tempura batter or some other light batter and get a glimpse of what you enjoyed in Prescott! Lovely place!

We lived in Mesa, AZ for 3.5 years and Gilbert, AZ for 2.5 years

Oh, so sad about the stores. I feel so bad for all these store owners who've slaved for years! Now about your comment referring to my Pier 1 polka dot plates. I'm sorry you had to see them on mine. Must not have made a very good impression. Seeing the plates you wanted and were frugal enough to pass by on "my" post. Well, I shouldn't have bought them either last weekend. My husband (a psychiatrist, by the way; hmmm, does this say something about seeing "dotty" folks at the state hospital all day?) actually picked those out!

Hi Ceekay!

Oh, I was so excited to see this post. Our neighbors moved to Prescott about six months ago...I miss them soooo much...you know how it is when you have wonderful neighbor/friends! Now I know what it looks like where they live.

Have a wonderful week!

Hi there! Thanks so much for coming by to enter my giveaway. I hope you do get some of these tags! if you use them regularly, you MUST try Blanca's tags. You will want a collection of them to keep around to use on everything! They smell like vanilla and they are better than any candle or spray scent you could get for your home. I loved this post of yours. it made me want to go to my Antique Mall and to eat some fried jalapenos!

I just came across your blog and it made me such a happy girl! My son Michael lives in Surprise and he and his girl Jhannin go tp Prescott to cool off to! Now after reading your wonderful post I know what it looks like! I drove cross country with him when he moved there in 2006 and have only been there once. Mikie as we call him hasn't been able to come home in a year and I miss him so but your post warmed my heart! Thank you for sharing AZ with Mikie's mom today! Lori
