and Once I made a Doll

I was newly married and my aunt was big into ceramics.  Someone, I don't remember who, thought we should make the women in the family a porcelain
baby doll.  The body is cloth and stuffed....the head and the hands are porcelain.  My mom, my cousin, my aunt and I cleaned and painted the pieces, my aunt baked them....Then it was a great co-operation of making the doll clothes.  Now, unlike the bear, this memory is a great one....with my family around the table, creating.

Of course, you KNOW, I still have my doll.....she sits on my old trunk in our bedroom.  Her dress is cream with peach ribbon...closet to orange for a baby outfit!

Have you ever made a doll?

Should we give her a name?  Poor thing has been nameless for about 38 years!

My grandmother used to make these dolls...she called them a Bye Lo or something like that. I was doing craft shows way back then and she used to put them in my booth to sell. She sold quite a few of them. I have three of them that she made and will always cherish them...hugs, Penny

She has no name? She's waited for decades? Maybe her name is Patience. Whatever it is, she's very sweet. No, I have never made a doll. I did make a baby teddy bear once. It was only an inch tall and was glued to a barrette. My daughter refused to wear him.

She is very lovely, I can hardly believe someone can make a doll, y'all did really well! I suggest the name Gracie ... but of course it's up to you. Hugs ~ Mary

Your doll is adorable! Yes, I've made a doll. Mine was a pillow case doll with a hand-painted face and curly blond hair. I still have her but she's not on display. Maybe I should set her out again...

Hi Ceekay,
She has the sweetest face and I love her little outfit. Maybe you should just call her Baby.

She is so sweet and I love the memories you have of making her.
I was going to say I've never made a doll, but then I remembered that I did make a Raggedy Ann doll many moons ago.

So pretty, love the lace cap and dress. I think she should be Amber, because that's as close as I can get to "orange!"

My mother had the same thoughts about the women in the family having a Byelo baby doll! She didn't make them, but she bought they from someone who did and she sewed all the clothes for them! I still have mine, it's displayed in the wicker doll carriage in the guest room. I also have the one mother gave my sister.

I never made a bear, but I sure bought a lot of them! I did buy a white chenille bedspread to have one made and never found anyone to make it :-(

How sweet! That's a cute little baby and you have to name her. She looks very sad that she doesn't have a name! Let's see, she could be Priscilla! Now what else have you 'once' done? :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
