What Is This?

We went garage-saling up north....and I came across these.

I know that they are spools of some sort, but these are unlike any I have....
because of the notches in the big one, I wondered if the smaller ones go on it?

Does anyone know?

My first "real" job was working in mill where they sewed garments. Those notches were used to "set" the bobbin down into the receptacle so that they would not pop out of place from tension on them (if I remember correctly). The tapered ones were spools where the thread flowed straight up from the bobbin and then through a wire hoop to the machine.

I used to have a quite a collection of them but I gave them to my friend that was collecting them. I only have one left. I have always loved them. xo Diana

Some type of spindle from the garment or cloth industry.

I should know this. Some of my ancestors were cloth manufacturers/merchants and owned mills in Scotland, but I have never been to a mill. Shamefully. ;-)

Well, leave it to the NanaDiana to have the answer! No matter What kind of spools they are, for 10 cents, you could NOT pass those up! So cute!! Hope you are feeling well! Blessings, Cindy

Hi Ceekay, I love these spools and have a nice collection of them too. Diana gives the correct answer to what these are and how they are used. Looks like you found some great ones.
Have a great rest of the weekend.

My guess was the same as yours... some sort of spool. They are kind of neat! What are you going to do with them?

Hi Ceekay, I hope you are feeling good. Those spools are quite the mystery. I am sure someone has an idea of what they are used for. xo
