Happy Weekend!

Just wanted to tell everyone in blog land to have a great weekend. Hope you all have a wonderful time of worshipping and time with family and friends. This Bible was my Grandpa's last Bible. It is a large print. The cover is getting quite worn so I put the ribbon around it. The glasses were some of his from years past. I also have my mom's Bible. These are cherished heirlooms of mine and I am so thankful to have them.

Friday's Show and Tell

For my Show and Tell this week I just wanted to show a couple new purchases. I absolutely had to have these glasses from Pier One. The front of the glass is like a chalk board. Too cute!

These placements I bought at the Dollar Tree. To me, they remind me of Laura Ashley kind of linens. I love all the pleats. Can't wait to use them.

Finally, this is my Key wall in the hallway. I have a "thing" for keys. These I bought 2 years ago at Kirkland. The door knocker was from our old house. We have a steel door and wasn't putting it outside, so I thought I would put it inside!

Tea Blog-a-Thon #9

This week for Gracious Hospitality's Tea Blog-a-Thon, we are to share about our favorite tea rooms. I like this topic. I LOVE to go to tea, and have been to several tea rooms. The sad thing is many are now closed.
I started going to tea rooms several years ago in Prescott AZ. They have had 3 tea rooms all at different times. Each was beautiful and special in its own way. Then about 2 years ago I discovered the Tea Map.com and have gone to several tea rooms closer to my home.

My all time favorite is English Rose in Cave Creek AZ. This is owned and operated by a lovely lady living here now, but from England. The scones are fantastic and the room is so cozy. There is a precious gift shop right next store to also enjoy. I also love to go to Abbey Gardens in Mesa AZ. This place is so quaint and you start out your afternoon tea by choosing your cup off a display cabinet. They sell many tea related items in the store.
This past Christmas my hubby sent me and my friend Candy to the Ritz for high tea. That was incredible. The service is top notch, gentlemen dressed in suits and bow ties. Piano player in the background. The Ritz Carlton is beautiful anytime, but at Christmas it was especially lovely.
When I went to visit my friend Rose last October we went to a tea room in South Carolina. Again, unfortunately, this has since closed. But it was the sweetest place and had so many different tea related items.

All this talk about tea rooms has made me think....been a while. Think I will pick up the phone and call my friend. I got her started down this path....and she is usually ready to go whenever I ask! Come visit lovely HOT Arizona and we will go to tea too!

In the year 2035

Cue the music.....

Children go through boxes of parents "stuff". "What is this? I am not sure...must be a memory card reader of some sort....but, hmmm, where does the USB cord plug in....oh look, it has batteries. We better hang on to it, it could be an antique!"
Well, children, I know these look really wierd to you, but they are called slides! And the battery driven contraption, it is a mini slide viewer.



This weekend, hubby and I went through all the old slides and converted them to the computer. Laughter, tears, and several...man, we looked good back then...we finally finished. I laughed when I realized that our children surely would not know what the viewer was for.
I thought you also might like to see the pin I mentioned for Mother's day. I always wear this every mother's day....about 24 years or so now.
And these little fellas were quacking up a storm by my son's apartment. He ran and got some bread so I could feed them.
They sure are beautiful! I had a great time with my son and hubby on Sunday. However, my daughter was ill. We will have to make up the day later...cuz you know I have to see those grandbabies!

I am so far behind!!!!

I hope everyone out in blog land had a wonderful mother's day. I am still trying to get caught up, especially with sleep! A little left over from my chemo is tiredness. I really have to watch how much I do in one day...well, this weekend was a whirlwind. I had a luncheon to go to on Saturday, which was beautiful, however, my daughter ended up in emergency. So I went right after to sit with her. It was nothing serious, but of course, no hurry there. Sunday we went to church and our son joined us. After dinner, he needed to go look at new apartments and wanted us to come along! Sooooo.... First of all, I want to thank Kathy, my dear friend for this precious award. You can visit Kathy here.

Then I have wanted to post a couple things that I forgot in the last week or so. Charlotte @ At home in Scottsdale posted a vase from her mother. It reminded me of a vase I have from my mom. I know it is from the late 40's when she married.
It is a Hull.
Then after I posted my Initials several posts back, I realized I forgot a few. This is a pillow on our bed.

It's Mother's Day!

Mother's Day has been a special day in my heart for many years. I first became a mother on June 17, 1975 when my first daughter Annetta was born. She went home to Jesus on that same day, but I became a mom that day. It was many years later and many heartbreaks later, that I finally became a mother to our son. That mother's day my husband bought me a beautiful brooch that I wear every mother's day....it is a jeweled MOM. Two years later I became mom to our daughter. I loved raising those two babies!

Of course, I cannot think of mother's day without thinking about the other women in my life. My mother was always home and provided such a warm and loving home to come home to. She was a single mom as my dad passed away when I was 9. I know it couldn't have been easy for her. To tell you that I had a wonderful grandmother would only be touching the surface. She was a whirlwind of activity in the home. The whole family gravitated to her home.

My precious Aunt Barb, who just lost her husband of 64 years in January is like a second mom to me. Never a harsh word and always words of encouragement. And of course, my two dearest friends. Rose @ A Hint of Home and Kathy @ Mimi's Garden. Rose is truly like a sister to me. We were young wives, learning as we went and making ends meet. Kathy, a kindred spirit in raising our children and laughing at the silly-ness of life! So as you can see I have been blessed. I know many of you today are also remembering and honoring the wonderful women and children in your life. Enjoy your day!

I Could Not Wait!!

Ok, I tried, really I did. I planned on doing my Show and Tell, I even got it ready. I mean, it is almost Friday...but I couldn't wait. After I got done squealing, I had to take the pictures, and I had to share them. I know you understand!
Hubby needed pop (yes, I am originally from Michigan, and we say pop)...anyways back to the subject....so we stopped at the grocery store. He says, "Do you want to come in?" She says, "Well, ok, if you insist. I will just check the clearance table".
There they were. Take me home. I heard it plain as day......

These itty bitty little pink rose floating candles. (Breathe....)
I put them in my new cup with the pink roses......
Ok, I just cannot even find words.......Too cute!
Then this afternoon look what came.....2 dozen...I could barely get them in the vase....
He is just too good to me.

I am all worn out. This excitement is just about too much. And I didn't even tell you about what I found at the Dollar Tree. That will have to be another day. Squeal overload!

PS. I bought the candles at Fry's Market Place. There are 24 in the package for $3.99. Fry's is owned by Kroger, for those who would like some candles. Glad you all like them!

Set the Table, Tea is On!

Hello blogland. No, I didn't forget about our tea blog. I just had to wait to have my tea! This week at Gracious Hospitality, we are to share an afternoon tea table. I invited two lovely ladies from my church and we enjoyed a tea luncheon. I had a Chicken Salad, Pita Bread, and Pistachio Nut Salad with Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. We had a lovely time just gabbing! I used the new tea set my husband had given me. After much talking, eating, and looking at blogs, my friends had to go home. It was a wonderful time to treasure.

Next time, you will have to join us! ***Added note...the cookies were sent to me from Kathy at Mimi's Garden. I know they are so cute...I couldn't wait to use them.***

***Another added note: Some of you have asked for the Pistachio Nut Salad Recipe. Here it is:

1 Sm pkg of Pistachio Instant pudding mix

2 c mini marshmellows

1 20 oz can of crushed pinapple with the juice

1/2 c chopped walnuts

1 container Cool Whip

Put all in a bowl and mix well. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving.

This salad is an OLD recipe, my kind of cooking, and has several different names. I could make it in my sleep! But everyone enjoys it, especially in the summer.

Simple Saturday

Not doing too much around here today. It is a beautiful day and I have gone outside several times just to take in the beauty. I thought I would post some pictures of my family room. This is where I spend my time watching HGTV, HSN, QVC, and Food Network. This room is basically a great room with the eating area and Kitchen all in the same area...



I know this picture is dark, but you can see the dining area and kitchen to the left. The whole back wall of this room is windows to the back yard...it is lovely in person, but very hard to take pictures of!!
In the cubicle above the Entertainment unit is a lot of my antiques. Someday I will post about those! It is open to the family room and the other side in the hallway to the bedroom. I don't know what I would do without it....My "stuff" as my hubby calls it, has to go somewhere!

Friday - It's Show and Tell!

Well it is time for Show and Tell at Kellishouse.blogspot and I have a show and tell quiz. What are the objects below? I bought them last week at a garage sale. Here is one by itself. I had never seen anything like it before.
While we were in Mexico I purchased this lace tablecloth. It is beautiful.
And have you all seen the birds at Cracker Barrel? I have all three of these little ones.
