Happy Mother's Day 2009

Everyday when I say my prayers, I thank the Lord for the many things He has done for me. One of the greatest of those was giving me a Godly heritage. As I grow older, with each passing year, I grow to appreciate even more what that means, to have a Godly heritage. Today on Mother's Day, I want to honor a few of the women that had a part in making me the woman I am today.

This is my Grandma. The picture is of both my Grandparents celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. My grandma has been with the Lord now for 29 years. She was such a wonderful grandma. I remember her braiding my hair like she wore hers in Russia when she was a girl. And shopping (that's probably where it all started for me) at Hudsons for the perfect hat to wear to church on Sunday. And sitting on the couch and reading the German Bible every night with Grandpa....
This is my Aunt Barbara, many years ago. She is aging now and can't get around like she used to. But oh, how I could talk to her about anything. And she never judged me. There wasn't much my Aunt couldn't do....she worked full time every day, every year until she retired and was a wonderful helpmeet for her husband. And no one could have fun like my Aunt Barb!

And my mother, Alice shown here with me and my Uncle (MANY years ago!) My mother was truly a housewife and mom. She washed and cleaned and baked like no one I have ever known. She would wear worn out housedresses, so that her only child would have new clothes for school. She wasn't much for socializing, but she loved to sit around the table with her family and talk about their lives. She taught me what it means to be part of a family. She was blessed to live to see her first grandchild, our son. (Yes, I know, I look like my mom!!)

There are many other women in my life that have had a part in the molding of what Christ is doing in my life. I was blessed with wonderful aunts who all loved the Lord and their families. And I have had two life long girlfriends who have laughed and cried with me, counseled me, and loved me. I don't think any of us mothers can be without our sisters in love... and you know them, Ro and Kathy.

I love Mother's Day. I have since they placed that little bundle in my arms. I will shed some tears on that day, as I have writing this post. Many memories flood my mind. I have the memories of mother's past, memories of my days of being a young mother, and now, the joy of being a grandma. You can't beat that! Happy Mother's day to all my blogging girlfriends! Enjoy it, you deserve it!

Isn't it wonderful to have had the heritage? I remember grandma, sitting on her stool near the table, watching her family eat - like a mother hen.

Your mother, my aunt...her laugh...oh, Ceekay, how I miss her laugh!! How I miss those sleep-overs and the fun times we had...your mother was so much fun.

My mom...the best piano teacher, best mother, best coach, best example a daughter could have. I remember her faithfully picking Grandpa up when he could no longer drive, and she and I would take him to the grocery store for the weekly groceries. She ran her household, cared for Grandpa and Grandma's needs, took care of my other Grandma's banking...super woman.

Aunt Barb...all those children with handicaps that she loved and cared for with such dedication. And such devotion to Uncle Arnold.

Aunt Ida....she reminds me so much of Grandma. When Uncle Albert would talk away, Aunt Ida was quietly sitting by. But she lived close to us...I spent many a weekend with her when the boys went hunting. A trooper, a loving mother, a shining example.

We ARE blessed.

Happy Mother's Day!!

Sweet CeeKay.......

What a lucky gal you are to have had such loving women in your life.

My circle was so small......my parents moved away from their home state, so our family was just us.....

Blessings and hugs,
Spencer

Dear Ceekay, I love this post and it reads like a reflection of memories similar for me. Your mother sounds so much like my mother except she also worked outside the home too.
We also went to Hudsons. You were surrounded by special ladies and it shows.
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day.
Have a great week and many blessings always.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
