Silver Sunday #3 and Mosaic Monday

I so look forward to Silver Sunday at Gypsy Fish and Mosaic Monday at Mary's. I must admit though, I am running out of silver to show. I was talking with a friend and we deduced that silver wasn't a very popular gift in the 70's for brides. But I have dug...and I do mean that literally through cupboards and hope chests and come up with a few things to show.

The first upper left picture is one of my most cherished items. (I KNOW - I say that alot. ) My mom, when I first was married took her first and only airline flight to Florida, back when they fed a real meal. She asked the stewardess (yes, still stewardess at that time) if she could have a set of the silverware. And they gave her a new set. I don't know what airline the symbol is of in the bottom left photo....but as you can see, they were REAL silverware - knife and all.

The above mosaic is of a little box I have on my nightstand. I grouped together a teacup and saucer, a lipstick case, a ring holder and a silver picture frame from our 25th Wedding anniversary 12 years ago!

This candy dish with yummy butter mints was a wedding gift from the president of the college where my husband and I met. It is not fancy by any means, but it is cherished.

This sweet baby spoon I found at a thrift shop last week. It was $4.00 and when I got it home and cleaned, discovered the L engraved in the handle. So now, I can say it is my husband's baby spoon!

This picture is from the first collage. These are my cereal spoons when I was a child. I believe my mom sent in box top labels to get them.

These butter and cheese knives were $1.00 for all at an Estate sale last year...I like that they don't match!!

This fork and knife is from my child's silverware set. It is Oneida and I don't have the spoon anymore, but I would love to find one!

Well, we will see what I dredge up for next week's show of silver. I do know that some of what I showed today is not real silverware in the technical sense, but, hey, go with me on this OK??
Don't forget to check out all the other Silver items today and the mosaics on Monday. Oh, and you friends out there that haven't said you are coming by...say hi ok?? I would love to hear from you!!!

We continue to pray for all those suffering in Haiti. How difficult their life is right now...we are very blessed.

Ceekay, you have some beautiful silver pieces. I adore the baby spoon with the L. on it. And the mismatched knifes are wonderful. I like you don't have a lot of silver. I've enjoyed viewing yours..hugs ~lynne~

Enjoyed seeing your sweet silver treasures. It's fun to pull them together as you did on your night table. We married in 75 and didn't receive much silver either. I've added pieces through the years from estate sales, etc. I have a weakness for small trays on which to place little things. I didn't get a Silver Sunday post ready for this week, but did leave a post for Pink Saturday in honor of some Haitian artists, and a book review for Jain's new blog Food for Thought. Stop by for a visit if you have time. Thanks for sharing your silver. ~ Sarah

What wonderful treasures you have there, Ceekay. Imagine, not only having silverware on a flight, but being given the silver to keep. Maybe it was one less setting to wash!! lol! I love the pretty ring holder, I have one in the shape of a swan and adore it. Baby silver and a spoon with hubby's initial?? Love it. Now, I really wish I had things like that. Precious!!

Ceekay, you do have a lot of wonderful silver pieces. I love all the pretty silverware and your cereal spoons are just the sweetest ever. How neat to have the real silverware from an airline. I didn't know they ever did that. Great pieces. Hugs, Marty

Wow, that is something that the airlines gave your Mom that set of silverware. You're right, you don't get that kind of service now days.
Your pieces are very pretty. I love the collage of the things with your anniversary pic.

Ceekay, what neat silverware to have. How neat that you have your mother's silverware from the airline (I bet not many people have that). Love the cute cereal spoons, and you got a real deal on your "husband's" baby spoon! Hope you are having a great weekend. laurie

Love all of your silverware especially your cereal spoons - they are adorable. Now that I've dug out all of the silver serving dishes from under the bed, I guess I'll have to post about all of the eating utensils I have (several sets of sterling that belonged to great-grandmother, grandmothers, and my mother). Silver just seemed to come to me in my family. I'm loving all of these silver posts including yours. I'm thinking you have chemo on Tuesday - I'll pray as always. Sally

What a pretty collection. I love the story about the silverware from your mom's flight too. Boy, things are different now, aren't they? Silver wasn't a gift many gave in the 80's when I was married either. This is a wonderful post, and sweet memories to share.

Hi Ceekay
You have some lovely pieces here with great memories attached. You know some years back I used my frequent flyers to fly a short trip business class on a very small plane. .. Originally they seated me incorrectly, whenl I shyly pointed it out, thy moved the curtain from in front of me to behind me and changed the plastic cutlery to silver.. ha ha...Your story just reminded me.... Have a great week .. Julie

Pretty pieces you have there. I was also married in the 70's and didn't get silver either. It was considered almost a nuisance then with all the new age plastic products coming out! I'm glad it wasn't all melted or thrown out so we could salvage it now. Thanks for stopping by my Silver Hollowware Blog!

Hi Ceekay! Oh, I've missed you! What pretty silvers you have and I love the stories! Many years ago when airlines served real meals, I was fascinated with those little utensils you ate with. I would ask the stewardesses if I could buy a set and they always were so kind and gave me a set! I used to have quite a few and my children loved to eat with them and now - they're all gone!
I love your little Yogi Bear spoons. Hope you're doing well.

Hi Ceekay! What a great group of silvery items you assembled for this post! I enjoyed seeing them all and reading the little stories that went with them. I was really impressed with the set you mom received on her plane trip...wow! That truly does tell us how far down the tubes our airlines have slipped over the years. Truly sad. It used to be such a treat to fly....we were treated like royalty then.

Hope you had a great weekend! L, Dana

I really like silver. In the 60s I saved my quarters to add to our sterling flatware. As soon as I got enough saved up to buy a spoon, fork or knive, I headed for a department store to buy it. We just recently started using that silverware on a daily basis. I realized I was saving it to death. We only used it about 3 times a year. That's silly.
Hugs & blessings to you Ceekay.
