I Just had to Buy her!!

I am adding this post to Kelli's Show and Tell. Be sure to visit all the other participants. You won't be sorry.
We needed to get the girls from the ensemble back to church EARLY...so we were sitting in the church looking at the newspaper sales. I said, "oh honey, I need to go to Target...I want to buy one of these. They are only $3.00! Hubs: "What do you need that for? You are a GROWN (he surely did not mean OLD) woman!" Me pouting...
So after church he stood his ground and took me to Target. We went straight to get her. Then hubs said, "You better get a few for gifts...that's a really smokin (his exact words here) deal!" I couldn't punch him then, I needed him to hold a few packages.....
Here she is.
2009 Anniversary Barbie. For $3.00!

Oh, but you KNOW the story isn't ending here. In the hope chest I go AGAIN. I know it is there.....yep, yep.....
THERE she is, a little worse for wear! (no comparisons here please)
My original Barbie! Ok, a moment here please. Deep breaths....

Seriously, can you STAND IT!????

This is a great find!! Target just opened a new store about 2 miles from my home-Yay!!

I have my first and only Barbie that I received in 5th grade Christmas of 1962. And I bought my daughter it's anniversary Barbie quite a few years ago. So fun.

Have fun with yours:)

Wow, that's a great price and a great Barbie. I still have my originals in the attic somewhere.

She sure has aged well.

Wow what a bargain. Barbie has improved over the years. My daughter had some of the first Barbies, Kens, and their friends. She should have kept them.
Your Hubby sounds just like mine. I think he would have reacted the same way yours did even up to the end by suggesting you buy more. My Hubby always starts out by saying "You don't need that" and proceeds to figure out a way to get it for me. He's so sweet.

I guess the economy really is tanking if we have bargain basement Barbie. You have your first Barbie, now that is a true collector, way to go!!

I have that Barbie too-like your old one! I thought I was the only person who had received a brunette Barbie that first year! Everyone I knew had the blond! I don't think I still have her swimsuit though, but I do have some of the other original clothes. I was almost too old for dolls when Barbie came out, so mine is in pretty good shape. Fun post! Thanks for sharing. laurie

Im glad you bought her, Ceekay! I think she's neat! My Barbies are long since MIA. They were loved to pieces. Ken (the one with the suade-y hair) had a rubbed spot on his flattop. LOL! Yes, I played with dolls till they had no life left in them, but they would also get in Ken's Rot rod or the Dream Car and drive recklessly as they (translated I) approached puberty!

But I love it. Wish I knew what happened to Barbie and Carol (brunette Barbie with a bubble do that I had to name another name). Skipper, Tipper (same thing with name change), and Midge along with Ken and Al (named after my cousin's cousin Al whose brother was Ken... Al had plastic hair, very shallow, that one!) are MIA, too. Maybe I will unearth them someday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

At $3.00, you can't go wrong!
It's neat that you still have the Barbie doll you played with as a young girl. I don't have anything from my childhood; Unlike my husband & his sister's who kept everything! Thanks for sharing.

Hello Ceekay,
I am a vintage Barbie collector so you can imagine how much I liked and enjoyed reading your post! By the way, by looking at your Barbie, without seeing the writing on her butt, I am guessing she is a #4 Brunette Barbie with a bad hair day! Is she a ponytail barbie or did she come with her hair up in a bun? They did make a few with factory buns which are rare or maybe you gave her a hair cut when you were a little girl around 1960? LOL
I haven't bought myself a anniversary one yet, but $3.00? WooHoo, you did good!

I had a Barbie on my Christmas list the very first Christmas they were available. I kept looking under the tree for the BARBIE SIZED box.....I was soooooooo disappointed when I was ready to open my very last present and still no Babs. I wanted to cry. Finally.........I opened the last one.....it was the Mix and Match Barbie, complete with a little orange shell and cardigan and gray skirt. I was so thrilled! I sure wish I had the old girl now.

I'm on my way to see if they still have any at my Target.

Warm blessings,
Spencer

Wow she brings back memories. My sis and I had a lot of fun playing barbies!

Considering how old she is, I guess she wasn't having too bad of a hair day. That's a great price on the new Barbie. I remember my aunt giving me a Barbie when I was little, I washed her hair, it went from a beautiful soft ponytail to what looked and felt like straw! I remember having one called Barbette, once. I have no girls, but a few years ago I got a Barbie with kool aid points. I love her.
